Fantasy Playtest Report Back
Fantasy Playtest Report Back
The Undead 'Die!' (Yet again!;) The Dark Elves are finally rebased, and yesterday, Peter and I had a 'semi-solo' in our first full Fantasy playtest for the beta Rules.
After 2hrs of an indecisive battle, the Dark Elves suddenly and dramatically achieved a stunning 20 : 4 win! The "Witch Elves" using their albeit risky 'Up' ability, , suddenly appeared within striking distance of the Undead camp. Skeleton Skirmishers were too late to prevent the carnage and the points lost to the camp tipped the balance. (See dramatic photo of these ghastly females ransacking the camp!;)
My "Undead?" I need get back to the drawing board with them. Having most of them 'Slow' and a 'Unruly,' although increasing their volumes, certainly makes for a ponderous, slow army!
My Dark Elves although quite small in numbers, so far, may have found their optimal efficiency. (List could change though, when my Morathi arrives tomorrow.) I can post up army lists at some stage for your wise advise.
Thankyou Peter for a most enjoyable game. (even though you beat me fair and square!... and those Undead? Back to the drawing board. Grrrrr! )

Glad you are having fun with the fantasy stuff. However, the Dark Elves need a more Dark Elfy camp?
Re: Fantasy Playtest Report Back
Oh yes. One thing we tend to overlook until last. Both sides need proper camps. That building was all I could find and was wondering if I should try make it look more 'dark elfish' with a base. I have downloaded some pdf cardboard cut-out stuff which I may try put together sometime. (Crypt, haunted house, Dark Elf buildings etc) but of course.... TIME!

Here is the Camp I mentioned. Was wondering. Can there be a sort of (cheap) Hero who can Garrison and provide bonus fighting to the Camp. (thinking of that Skull Totem)

Yes. It is called "Fortified Camp." How is it fortified? It is defended by that hero.

OK fortified will be useful.
I take it if camp is under threat, like any other stand, your Hero can go across and add his/her abilities to help camp defend itself.

Re: Fantasy Playtest Report Back
Are you talking about a hero giving his transferable abilities to a camp by contact? Hm. Didn't consider that angle before -- we (WGC) will have to discuss that one. When I read this for the first time I thought you were talking about other stands going across and garrisoning the camp, which is not legal (garrison stands must be placed at deployment time, and cannot be moved thereafter during that battle).
What I meant was just using the battle card Fortified Camp. If you buy that battle card your camp is stronger against enemy attack. Why is it stronger? That could be anything -- palisades, ditches, illusions, or Elric of Melnibone taking his ease in the main tent. If you want to have a "hero" defending your camp, you don't need to use the rules for heroes, you just buy the Fortified Camp battle card and SAY that it is a hero.

Yes, please discuss the possibility of the Hero going across and adding its abilities to a threatened camp. Thanks for considering it. Although Camp does not pay points, and definition that seems to be separate from Stands, it does fight. I find the idea quite attractive. (Esp if you read of my disaster with the 'Up' Witches, further back in this post!) I shall in the meanwhile try that out. (and/or else 'Fortify' as you say.) Hopefully can get in another playtest this coming weekend.
