I'm in my office hours and I'm bored (no students showing up) so here's a pic of some figs that are going to be part of my Fantasy Egyptian army:
On the left are Anubis Guard figures (from Reaper) that are going to form a Raider stand (possibly with Deadly -- they're pretty serious looking Anubi dudes).
On the center are some Egyptian Historicals (28mm). They're going to be Heavy Foot.
On the right are some Horus-headed foot from Wargods of Aegyptus. They're going to be Elite Foot, probably with Prowess (because they're also serious dudes).
The Anubis figs and the historicals need rebasing; the Horus figs are already on 80mm bases.

Nice army!!!
Why are the skirmishers "slow"? Is there a story behind?
Really like how the basing ties everything together.

Re: Fantasy Egyptians
In an army with regular humans and fantastic beasts, I was interested in making the distinction between "levels" of ability. This not only makes the fantastic stands feel stronger, but distinguishes the human stands in another way -- the humans are more numerous and less capable individually, which fits my vision of how things ought to be. If you look at the ratings for the human stands, I've got the following:
- "Good" human foot: Heavy Foot
- "Poor" human foot: Heavy Foot with Brittle (shattered by everything). I could have gone with Horde here, but I liked Heavy Foot Brittle because these are the only stands in the army not painted by me (I got them at a flea market at a convention) and I had exactly enough for four stands of Heavy Foot Peanut Brittle.
- "Good" human bowmen: Archers Brittle. I could have gone with Bow Levy with Ranged too, but I had 16 painted figs and no unpainted -- hate to not-use something I've painted.
- Skirmishers Slow
Another thing is that one of my main opponents is DS, and he's working on his fantasy army of Sobeki and Typhons, and the Typhons have some Archer stands. This way my Archers can fight against his Archers, but mine will be more numerous and less capable -- as is only appropriate for humans fighting against fantastic archers.
So for the Skirmishers, I was a little unsure how best to have them be a little disadvantaged (vis-a-vis any Typhon bow Skirm that DS puts together) -- Brittle would be a disaster, of course. Slow is a nice compromise. They are still Skirms (their combat results table is unmodified) but they won't be able to voluntarily disengage from enemy 4mu troops, and they won't be quite as surprising-zoomy as regular Skirms.
Thanks. I used to suck at basing, but I've got a number of good systems going now. Wait until you see my Fire Elemental basing, when I put pics up of my Elemental Plane of Fire army (maybe next week). I'm particularly proud of it.
