Campaign Book General Structure

Post by David Kuijt » Sun Jun 21, 2020 2:03 pm

We're about 70 pages into the rough draft of Campaign Book #1. Current structure/design looks like this:

Overview section: how to run these campaigns, general campaign rules, details needed to run the campaigns

Seven campaigns, each with all the information needed to run it:
  • Background (historical context and situation)
  • Campaign Map
  • Army lists for all nation-states
  • Campaign-specific map rules (topographies, naval movement, wild areas, special movement)
  • Campaign-specific special rules (CMAT modification, special victory points, initial alliances, etc.)
Each campaign book will have seven campaigns, one each from the following large themes:
  • Biblical (Babylon to the fall of Assyria, essentially)
  • Classical (Greek and Macedonian and Punic Wars, mostly)
  • Roman (Marian Roman to the fall of Rome, mostly)
  • Dark Ages
  • Crusades (Early Medieval interaction between Europe and the Orient, mostly)
  • Medieval (13th-15th century Europe, mostly)
  • Asia (China, India, Southeast Asia, and we're throwing the Americas in here too)
We have the first three campaign books filled already based on the above structure, using materials we created for running campaigns with legacy systems.

Forgot to mention. Each campaign will appear in two different sizes. The big size is for a glorious 20-24 player campaign. Hard to get that many people together, but a really excellent experience when you do. The second size is aimed at smaller gaming groups who want to run one of these campaigns, and the campaign sizes there are more in the realm of 8-12 players.

David,

Will this be a hard copy, digital or both publication?

Cheers,
Greg in the antipodes.

Probably both. We're aiming for the same high quality as the rulebook.

Nice. I shall keep an eye out for it.

Any release date in sight?

Would you wet our appetites with some more spoilers?

Release date has been complicated by covid19, which makes it much harder for us to get stuff done because we all have jobs (working from home -- complex), wives (also working from home at the same time), many of us have kids (schooling from home), and as a result we're being slammed.

I'm hoping we can send it to our editor/design guy this Fall. Major issues that remain are the maps and taking pictures of miniatures for interior art.

Campaigns in Book One include:
  • Bronze Age Collapse. Sea Peoples Invasions and the Collapse of 1200 BC.
  • Viking Fury. Ninth Century Vikings and the British Isles.
  • Caesar's Gallic Wars. Roman Conquest of Gaul, 58-51 BC.
  • 4th War of the Diadachoi. Wars of Alexander's Successors, 308-301 BC.
  • Mittelalterlichen Deutschland. High Medieval Germany, 1425 AD.
  • God Wills It! First Crusade, 1097-1120 AD.
  • Mandate of Heaven. Warring States China, 260 BC.
