15mm Sea Peoples Camp

Post by Texus Maximus » Tue Aug 06, 2024 3:58 pm

This Sea Peoples camp uses the “whole edge camp” concept. The idea is to have a standard camp on the playing surface, but have supporting terrain behind it just off the board edge. It doesn’t affect play.

The actual Sea Peoples camp here is the patch of beach with a rock outcropping in the center. The camp is the bare minimum size allowed under the Triumph! Rules.

The intent is to create the impression that this is not a raid; the Sea Peoples are coming to take the land by force and settle there.

The ships and rowers are by Essex. Most of the crew on the anchored ship and in the water are by Essex or Old Glory, with quite a few conversions.

The “whole edge camp” idea takes extra money and effort but would work well for other armies. Vikings come to mind; or perhaps a long strip of grass that suggests the endless steppe for the Scythians. I have seen something similar done with oversized camps - back the camp off the back edge until only a legal-sized portion of the camp remains on the game board.

I have a collection of 3’ by 3” maps so I use some 6” wide black neoprene mats to make the playing surface a suitable size for Triumph! The 3’ long beach piece serves as Coast terrain during regular games and also as the baseline piece for this camp. It makes the Sea Peoples board edge slightly wavy but I don’t think that will affect play. I do think the ships might get in the way of the Sea Peoples player or get caught by a sleeve but they can be easily moved aside during game play.

Using a 3' square mat for Triumph!

Lovely work once again Paul. The wading invaders look great.

Cheers,

Thanks Greg! They were easy to make; I used clippers to snip them apart. They were set on a blob of Green Stuff to secure them to the base. The excess was dragged behind them to make a small wake. I made sure to lean them forward a little to make them look like they were wading.

Another lesson learned was to make them different heights to make them look like they are coming out of deeper water.
