Hi all,
Here are some pictures of my Fire Elemental army. This was one of the first prepainted plastic armies I built up -- because the figures look sooooo freaking cool, with the clear plastic fire. I am (modestly) a good painter, but I cannot paint "clear fire" on metal figures.
Because the figures looked so cool, I spent a lot of time figuring out how best to do the bases so it would do them justice. Eventually I decided to go with a paintjob that showed the heat these figures were radiating, on a rocky stony ground (the Plain of Elemental Fire).
Small Fire Elementals (Warband)
Large Fire Elementals (Knight)
Huge Fire Elemental (Elephant Deadly)
Wall of Fire (Spear with Slow and Hearten)

Forgot to include this image: Fire Elemental Army Heroes. Two wizards and a Phoenix. The Phoenix basing worked particularly well, I think.

Right -- ain't it beautiful? I'd love to take credit for it (and I'm pleased with what I did do, on the basing) but 90% of the glory of this army is just the fact that I made it up out of the translucent plastic figures. Glory through Purchasing Power!
I'll try to take some pictures of my Ice Army maybe next week; it came out rather well too. And it has some Ice Mephits and Ice Elementals that are also translucent plastic and look pretty fine as well.

Re: Fire Elemental Army
Amazing what one can do if one has the time and know how.
I'm (slowly) trying to create my 15mm Undead Horde, (11 Elements?) out of abandoned goblins, humans, 20mm Gauls, and even 25mm WH figures. One thing I am trying to achieve is to give them a rotting/ghostly look but keeping some detail and color. (so far tried, drybrush with silver/green mix. Not sure) I also want to redo the bases like you, to more bland, rocky greyish look. (pretty lawn green just does not seem to cut with fantasy and besides helps i.d. the Fantasy from the human armies.)
Problem is we're going into a house sale/move which takes up much of my time at moment and have been dumping/selling much of my Wargames stuff. Gave my adult daughter (who used to be a keen DBM tournament player) two Triumph! 48pts from my excess. (Dark elves & Parthian) Who knows she may just get back into playing.
