Rules changes in printed edition

Post by wybesse » Wed Mar 18, 2020 3:34 am

I gather that some rules changes were inserted in the print edition that have yet to be made in the PDF edition.

Leaving aside the question of whether it might have acknowledged the early adopters by making the changes in the PDF edition *first*, is there a comprehensive list of these changes anywhere?

Cheers,

Jan

There is no *first* -- it has been our intent from the start to have only one version of the game available and official at any given time. So we are waiting to modify the PDF/online edition until the print version is available. The printed version and the PDF will be made to match at that time.

Regardless, the changes to the rules are really very small.
  • We figured out how we wanted to do shooting at a general. Earlier version had no mod (giving the general +1 wasn't good because it made the general immune to shooting, due to the lower factors). New version is a -1 to the shooter (which works better, because math).
  • Clarifications to WWg wording on front edge. Not a change in our intent, but a change in the wording to make it more clear.
  • WWg are 3 pts now, not 4.
  • A small collection of wording clarifications.
The biggest change isn't any of the above -- it is that we will finally have a physical rulebook. Many grognards don't consider a rules system "real" if they don't have a physical rulebook in front of them to prove it.

Shipping is in the last days now -- email arguments are flying about whether we've paid for a liftgate and home delivery or not (we have, if you care).

You have not truly shipped anything until you have tried to ship international cargo via a container ship :D

Right, but making the changes to the PDF before the print version is available would have also maintained that "only one version at a time" idea. Since the only version anyone would have would be the PDF version. :)

And then we would have been fielding questions on when the print version would be available. Our assessment was that the way we are doing it was the best. There were going to be people who disagreed no matter which path we took.

Lemme guess: delayed by Chinese New Year, held hostage by pirates, now in Covid-19 quarantine? :D

(I just might have you beat though. I once had occasion to ship some military hardware across the Pond - let's just say the paperwork was nontrivial.)

The printed rulebook looks really nice. I will be purchasing it soon.

  • WWg are 3 pts now, not 4.
I note that the Meshwesh troop type page still has them as 4 pts.
