I'm not sure if you intended it, but this thread has proven to be a great tutorial David. Kudos to you.

Cheers,
Greg in the antipodes.

Side benefit, but I was aware of it. Thanks.

Thanks for the info on the gate. Those pictures are very clear too. Really looks great.

Questions: 1- Can you explain the alcohol wash?
2- are you working from any particular artwork/maps?
3- could you explain the caulking and paint process?

Mini-Dale looks great too.

It’s great to see this come together as a whole. The spurs of the Mountain are so clear. I look forward to seeing pictures with figures on them.

Stage 12: Flocking.

I use a mix of 1 part water to 2 parts white glue, brush it on fairly completely, then let it bead up a bit (three or four minutes) to give it an organic look and emphasize the texture and shaping of the painted and drybrushed caulk.

Let it dry completely (24 hours if you have it, which I rarely do) and brush off extra flock to reveal the patterns. In this case I reclaimed about 3/4 of a full container of Woodland Scenics.

I used three colors of flock -- dark green (weeds) in some few hollows where water would collect, green blend over most of it, and a green blend / yellowish mix on drier areas. Put down the detail flock first (not the regular green blend), allowing you to focus the accent colors. I shook the dry mix (green/yellow) from a significant height to spread it.

Finished map.

Not completely finished -- I haven't got time to do the water effects in the river and the ruined bridges across it, and some minor stuff in Dale (foliage fighting with the ruins). But good enough to run the game (tomorrow?)
