I'm not quite as reserved as the above posters.

You guys are all wimps in the life skill of brinksmanship. Here's part-way through stage 7 (applying caulk to the flats and plateaus and all the cuts and chinks).

Here's finished stage 7 (caulk). Any guesses as to how many tubes of caulk it takes to make the Lonely Mountain?

Stage 8 was this morning: running a bead of white glue down all the rivers and at the edge of steep slopes and applying gravel for the riverbed and scree at the bottom of the slopes. The caulk isn't quite dry yet -- I'm hoping to be able to paint the basecoats this afternoon, if the caulk dries sufficiently. Gives me lots of time to make up the ruined city of Dale, I suppose.

That Gate looks awesome! Where is that from?
I could find nothing in the books I have about Dale having had a wall.
May the spirit of the dwarves, the master builders of Middle Earth, and their creator, Aule', be with you in your recreation of the Lonely Mountain.

Stage 11: drybrush. White on the mountains, off-white on the plains.

A mix of out-of-print WETA bookends (the two Dwarven monuments on the sides), Ral Partha 1970s era pewter "Dwarven Coins" (the hammer and anvil carvings), plywood (the backer), and pink foam insulation (everything else).
Here's some finished pictures (after alcohol wash and drybrush).
