favorite armies.

Post by paulgpotter » Wed Jul 19, 2017 3:36 pm

I am just curious as to which armies the rest of you are enjoying and maybe why. At the moment I am having a lot of fun with Later Patrician Roman East and the Army of Attila. Both these armies have a nice mix of horse archers and knights which I enjoy and the army of Attila has Warriors which are rapidly becoming one of my favorite troop types.
Tonight I am hoping to get in a Wend vs Pre Viking Scandinavian game. I am wanting to play the Wends to get a feel for the light foot with a few jav cav thrown in. -Paul

Classical Indians are a hoot.....

Horde, Bow Levy and Bad Horse! Plus elephants and Chariots :)

I also loved my Later Hungarians with two knights and 10 Horsebow!

Love my Early Russians. Hitting power of the Knights. Mobility of Jav Cav and Horse Archers. Some steady foot (spear) to anchor the line. Heavy terrain may hamper a bit since only can have 1 light foot and a couple of skirmishers. No army is perfect! :D

Still learning my Sumerians/Akkadians. Can handle all the terrain they face. Lacking a hard hitting arm but if they can protect those flanks, pike can shove an enemy back onto their own camp! :D

I would have said Crusaders, but I tried out the Normans at Historicon and this Wiilam was conquered. I even won after getting WtC killed.

The Crusaders have archers and the Normans don't (?) but these armies have a nice combined arms feel to them, without being too complicated.

Wendy and I had a nice discussion about armies that are tough to play when you are just learning the game. On the two ends of the scale I'd put Mongols and Early Russians as examples of armies that can be hard to start with.

I want to try out all the 1066 historical battles with Triumph! So far, the battles I've played have been better in my mind from the legacy systems.

I do have some questions about the army list, but that is a different post.

I looked at the Triumph army lists again today
I think my Welsh North will still be good
Late Crusader are okay -- I think I should adjust what I played at Historicon
I think the Anglo Danish might work also
Gonna try n paint one army a month going forward

Lusitanians in Grand Triumph! Pair them with their Roman allies for some stability in the middle and they are great. If you like playing light troops with lots of terrain they are a blast. Much better army in Grand Triumph than with the normal 48 pt battles.
