Historicon

Had a blast at Historicon 2021
the convention center - was overall not a bad venue - way better than the LandDumpster PA.

Triumph gang had a great area for games - with lots of room

We saw some brand new people to Triumph

Congratulations on your victory. Meanwhile I achieve a nearly perfect score, destroying only 1 unit in 3 games with my Viking army.

Wow, that's a rough record. With the battle cards available to Vikings, I've found them to be pretty competitive and fun. What were you matched up against?

I faced 3 late medieval armies and did not have any battle cards. I also had some bad die-rolling.

Without the battle cards, those are rough match-ups. Prepared Defenses and Mobile Infantry really help out against that type of army. Of course, if the dice were rooting for your opponents, it probably wouldn't have mattered... :D

Roger to be fair you were just borrowing a demo army straight up Viking list in an open where there were a lot of armies with mounted forces.

Vikings do much better in period.

As Rod says. I might say it even stronger -- Vikings are one of the dominant armies in their period. There is a rock-scissors-paper aspect for Open tournaments -- any army with heavy Archers/Bow Levy gets dominated by heavy foot armies; any army with heavy foot gets dominated by Knight armies; any army with Knights gets dominated by Archer/Bow Levy. If you don't want to have a major vulnerability, take a combined-arms army. If you take a combined-arms army, though, be prepared to have to deal with a very complicated tactical problem.

I should have taken the New Kingdom Egyptians for a very weird battle.

They're a good army in an Open tournament.
