David and David, thanks for running the event..... Great players and another really fun event.

Brian says I have to retire the Indian Horde army from open tournament play :(

(But if you run a classical Alexander or otherwise appropriately themed event in the future, they may return 8-) )

Brian's a weenie! Your massive mobility (arr arr) would have left you broken and weeping against light foot, artillery, massed archers, and lots of other armies.

It's going to be very interesting to see what people come up with as their favorite tournament armies in the next few years. It's an evolving social experiment.

I expected them to be broken and weeping against most enemies....

But shear dumb luck is often more powerful than skill and tactics :)

:?: :?: I'm curious :

Any time limit for the games ?
If so, any draw ?

How did you calculate the points ?

Thanks
Fab

Rounds were one hour; we weren't very sticky about it because it was a small tourney so we weren't going to run out of time, but I think all the battles were complete within the one hour timeframe after the first round (which takes a little longer as people are getting out their terrain, getting their army organized, etc. etc.). First round was probably 1:15 time limit?

No battles were called as draws due to timing out.

Points were:
  • 100 + pts killed - pts lost for the winner
  • pts killed for the loser
  • if there was a tie, same (for both players) as loser
Sacking a camp counts as 10 pts killed.
Killing a general counts as 10 pts killed.

This is a modification of the NASMW point system for DBA we developed a long time ago and used for a decade. The NASAMW system was 20 +kills -losses; Generals and Camps 2 pts. The extra granularity is a result of DBA counting "elements" and Triumph counting points (so a stand of Bow Levy is 2 pts; a stand of Elephants is 4 pts).

I think in future events we're going to switch to 80 pts base and camp/general costing 8 pts (instead of 100/10/10 as we ran it), because it is a little confusing for camps to cost 8 pts towards victory, and 10 pts towards the point system. Better to just go with a straight "NASAMW x 4" system of 80/8/8.
