Zama Attempt

Gentlemen,

Recently, I tried to stage a refight of this classic Second PUnic War battle using TRIUMPH!. Initially, it went well, and then I found myself losing interest and or overwhelmed by the large number of units that had to be moved or commanded each turn.

I did find that the Carthaginian cavalry wings were routed as historically happened, though no elephants played a part in this event.

I found that the elephant screen battle card worked rather well. The house rule I crafted to represent the "pachyderms paths" worked pretty well IMO. I was a bit disappointed, however, in that I was not able to physically represent the lanes created by Scipio.

The velites and hastati (mostly of the allied legions) really did well against the first line of Hannibal's army. They were able to start in on the second line a bit, too.

Some lessons learned . . . On the plus side, the experience gave me an idea for a new project.

Perhaps at some point in the future I will revisit Zama with TRIUMPH!

Thanks for reading.

Cheers,
Chris
