Spartacon Hastings Battle
Spartacon Hastings Battle
just some eye candy from last Saturday. Round one the Normans push hard but cannot pull the Saxons out of formation ultimately their attack stalls and the Saxons win the day.

Re: Spartacon Hastings Battle
Round two was much closer with some nail biting moments on both sides. Initially Odo's command performed a perfect attack pulling Saxon units off the hill and setting up a decisive charge.
Would have worked if he had not blown every command roll after that. Ultimately the battle was decided when Eustace command was charged as the Saxon left flank sensed an opportunity and came down the hill.- Bill Hupp

Looks great Rod.
Ok, where are we at now with the record for the Normans? 1-8? Not a winning season. Adjustments?

Actually the Normans did well in play testing and at Fall In, more experienced players.
However at flintcon I am thinking about adding a couple rabble for Eustace and Odo (to play on the flanks) and maybe one extra stand of Knights for William. It allows them the extra points to make a mistake and still recover. However, not enough to allow them to ignore the need to break up the Saxon line before trying to charge home.

Re: Spartacon Hastings Battle
They have 6 which is double the allotted amount.
With a couple rabble they have something to play in the woods against the Saxon Skirmishers and or keep them from flanking. One extra knight lets them make a mistake.

Re: Spartacon Hastings Battle
Norman rabble? Doesn't seem like there would be room in the boats for them. Maybe they are the sailors?

Sure, the cooks, bottle washers, sailors, young stable hands, lots of people who are not necessarily the trained professional warriors but necessary to field and army. Then armed with slings, clubs and pointy sticks would make up the rabble units.

Rod,
Do count round one at the October Pro or Con in Lavonia a Norman Victory?
Both flanks were routed.

Re: Spartacon Hastings Battle
Of course, and at flintcon, we had a Saxon victory and a Norman victory.
Both of them led by kids against more experienced adults.
