Some recent shots from two Hussite battles. The first battle is Hussites Vs. German Princes.
The Hussites deploy with a stream on one side which helps limit attacks on one flank. The Germans attempt a sweep on the opposite flank using knights.

Re: Hussite Battles
The Artillery gets off a lucky shot killing one knight and the war wagons on the right flank with help from some mounted crossbow (bad horse) manage to kill two more knights.
In the end the German foot tries to close, but it is too late by the time they do and the Hussites hold off the Germans. Hussite victory!

Re: Hussite Battles
The next battle was Hussites vs. Later Hungarians. The Later Hungarians were Horsebow and Knights.
Once again Hussites were able to pick terrain and went for a stream and even more annoying for the Later Hungarians a village on the opposite flank.
With their flanks secure the Hungarians were having a difficult time finding an approach that did not involve getting hammered by missile fire on the way in....

Re: Hussite Battles
The knights tried skirting the artillery seeing how deadly it could be to mounted. Unfortunately the Hussite player was able to wheel and cut off this approach.
The Hungarians burned command points to try and skirt the village.

Re: Hussite Battles
Too many Hungarians in the narrow slot between the village and the Horsebow attack frontally trying to get the artillery failed. Fortress Hussite held out again.

Re: Hussite Battles
Some of the things we learned playing these Hussite battles.
1. Narrowing the front for the Hussites was very effective in limiting the enemy options when facing superior mounted.
2. Artillery, while creating a possible vulnerable spot in the front line, was also effective at putting pressur on the enemy. If the Wagon Laager is not in danger of being outflanked, this clumsy formation can even advance or wheel forward towards the enemy.
3. The alternating formation of heavy foot and war wagons was effective at detering the knights and making sure the Hussite wagons had ample targets.
4. The Bad Horse and Knight General option held in reserve was also very important.
All in all the Hussites did well vs what would have been considered classic historical matchups. I do think a different approach with the German princes could have been more effective, and we will play more games in the future to test this theory. Essentially the foot troops become much more important when facing off against the war wagons and artillery. This is not a "go out and kill the enemy" army in the sense that it is very subject to getting it's camp taken if it moves too far forward and it has to be very concerned about being outflanked. It is not very manouverable obviously, it would be interesting to see though how this army might fair if taken with a battle card option to eliminate the static camp?
Generally speaking this army should be very afraid of other armies which have a lot of heavy or elite foot and or artillery, in my opinion, it will hold it's own against most mounted enemies or at least play to a draw.
It is also a fun army to collect and paint
