Spartans vs Vikings: It’s finally finished . . . or is it?

Post by HoaryCenturion » Mon Jan 02, 2023 3:39 pm

Fellow wargamers,

The TRIUMPH! rules were employed to play three games featuring these historical favorites of film, literature and TV. (I suppose I should include podcasts in there as well . . .)

The short stories or episodes can be found here:

Thanks in advance for your time.

Cheers,
Chris

Great battle reports! I especially love the flats you’re using for the units :)

Definitely like TTS! My gaming group is really into it, but I’ve managed to turn one of them to loving triumph. The chitless nature of it is great looking gaming table :)

Please do submit more of these.

Greedo (aka Chris - cool name by the way ;) ),

Thanks very much for taking the time to read and comment. Almost fell off my chair. Typically, I will get a number of views but only very rarely a response. Appreciated.

Agree with with on TTS! I really should try to stage more games using this innovative system. Even if they would have to be smaller scale . . . I have tried cards, but turned to using small poker chips with handwritten numbers on them. A little less clutter.

Stay tuned . . . I have a few more projects in the pipeline, as it were.

Thanks again for taking the time.

Cheers,
Chris

Hey Vodnik,

Thanks for reading and replying.

I can appreciate your preference. Due to the expense and talent required, I have opted to go in another direction.

You had no other remarks, thoughts, or judgments about the reports?

Thanks again for taking the time.

Cheers,
Chris

It's funny. I had the exact same reaction. I spent a bunch of time making little counters, half with 1-10 on them, and half with I-X (Roman Numerals) on them to get all ancient-like. And then when I came to play, I found that, the playing cards were just much faster... but agreed they didn't look quite a cool.

But even there, I STILL have my first love of historical wargaming was DBA, which has turned into Triumph! and so I will always return to it. Some great looking tables out there. Especially excited by double or triple Triumph! that I think can really look like a proper set of battle lines, and not a card/chit/marker to be seen.

Thanks also for the Greedo comment :) It's been my handle since I started using the Internet (1997?...)

Grand Triumph (triple-sized) is my favorite thing on the planet. Better than Cheese.

Chris:

You might enjoy taking a look at these two sites. Keith's figures and games are exemplary. Please see:

https://ancientwargaming.wordpress.com/ ... m-divided/

To clarify: The "cool name" compliment was directed at the Chris, for obvious but humble reasons. ;)

The Greedo transports me almost immediately to Michael Douglas's character Gordon Gecko, who "famously" said: "Greed is good."

Cheers,
Chris
