Fall In 2023-Thursday evening event

Post by Spencer » Tue Sep 05, 2023 1:40 pm

Fall In 2023 is about 2 months away, so it's time to get your armies ready!

Thursday 11/2/2023, 7:00Pm in the Triumph game area.
Our theme for the Thursday evening tournament will be "Italy and the Balkans" with a twist -- if your army has any allies, you must take an ally.
This will be a 15mm tournament with standard 48 points. Plan on three one hour rounds.
Use any of the 20 armies listed on Meshwesh under the "Italy and Balkans" theme.
16 of the armies listed have allies and you must include an ally in your army list if one is available.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Looks like an interesting theme.

What are people’s guess about Allies? How often ‘should’ we be using them from an historical stand point?

What are the most useful Allies to add to your collection? I’m guessing horse bow.

There are a several different army archetypes in the theme. The mobility of light horse armies is always useful. But, there are several armies that have substantial numbers of bow armed infantry or Pavisiers. Light horse do not like this troop type. Close formation armies like the Condotta have quite decent maneuver ratings, 3 and even 4! Choosing a light horse army when you could be outmaneuvered may not work well. An enemy can put down enough bad going to secure the flanks of the battle line forcing light cavalry to take 'the long way around.' You might not get the flank attacks which you were looking for.

Depends what your army needs!

If you have a Horsebow army, taking more horsebow isn't much use. But heavy foot might be.
If you have a close order foot army, taking some difficult terrain troops, or some fast mounted, might be useful.
If you have an Archer army, taking some sturdy elite foot or heavy foot would be useful.
If you have a Warband army, taking something that can fight against stuff that Warband are weak on, is useful.
It all depends.
