15mm Sumerian Camp

Post by Texus Maximus » Sun Apr 14, 2019 11:41 pm

A gate in the walls of Ur. The angled brick buttresses are from Baueda. The rest of the wall was carved fron blue insulation foam. A Eureka brand straddle car is placed on the corner to show scale.

A monumental work!

Though I daresay it will barely slow a certain thief and slayer from gaining a treasure or two from the inhabitants.

My "walls of Ur" camp seemed to be lacking something, so I made some modifications. Here is Sumerian Camp 2.0.

List of changes:

1. The walls are shorter. Now the camp fits in the box with the troops. It no longer obstructs the view of the area in front of the camp (for the Sumerian player).
2. The base is smaller and has more interesting terrain. The original looked too big, especially since the opposing camps are only about two feet apart on a Triumph! battlefield.
3. There are guards in front of the gate. The first version lacked any people, which in my view made the camp seem dull.

Is Ur 2.0 a new build or a renovation of the original camp? Either an excellent job.

Cheers,

Thanks for the positive feedback. And welcome to the Forum, Brummbar!

Gregorius, this is the original camp, which I cut down to a more manageable size with a hobby saw. It was about 15 minutes worth of work. Then I made a new base and added the figures.

On a related note, I made a second Sumerian camp last week. It represents some a hasty fortification, in this case a sheep pen that has been improved by a ditch and bank around it. I used a piece of blue insulation board with the ditch and bank out out with a sharp knife then sanded down. I left the ground mostly bare in order to make it look like recently upturned soil.

I had a few resin wall corner pieces to make the basic shape of the pen, then I added some Eureka Sumerian troops and a few sheep from Forged in Battle. It was a very quick and easy build.

Here is my third and final Sumerian camp - an armory in the woods next to a road. Some soldiers are helping repair a broken-down straddle car.

The building is from Crom's Anvil. The officer and straddle car are from Eureka. The soldiers are Chariot/Magister Militum figures. I posted pictures of this camp on Facebook but it has been modified since then - doubled the number of trees.
