Midianite Arab Camp 15mm

This camp depicts the Midianite shrine that was believed to occupy the site of an Egyptian temple of Hathor in the Timna valley. The walls and remaining floor of the shrine are of square cut stone, simulated here by balsa wood. A ritual bathing area is made of a wooden disk and a plate from an old play tea set. The site has remains of red and yellow cloth, post holes, and copper rings that indicate a large tent was here, represented by a large Baueda Arab-style tent. An Asherah pole (converted Splintered Light dryad) is behind the tent. Two Midianite women (Old Glory camp figures) stand in front of the tent ready to entice visitors into the worship of Baal-Peor. A guard ((Blue Moon native) sits nearby, in case any outraged visitors try to run them through with a spear. I recently bought some Irregular brand Midianite figures and they look great, so a few stands of camelry in the background are ready for an upgrade.

The camp was primed black, then dry brushed earth brown and “terra cotta”. The Asherah pole was removed and will be replaced by a few goats, which better matches the archaeology.

Additional dry-brushing has been done with a desert sand color. The stone wall on the edge of the temple was dry-brushed again with a sand-white mixture. The three people for the camp are complete except for a coat of matte finish. The Timna valley has been mined for copper since pre-history, so I took some artistic license and changed the stone basins to a large copper basin. I have also attached a picture of the actual temple ruins in southern Israel, rotated to match the orientation of the photo of the camp. Still to come: adding the details.
