Dunes

Post by Texus Maximus » Thu Apr 11, 2019 3:13 am

These dunes were made from a set of plastic moulded dunes sold by ”Amera”. The mouldings were glued to pieces of MDF to give them some weight and stability. I used Liquitex coarse texture gel to cover it. I have included a photo of the small dune after this step.

The dunes were then painted earth brown, then dry brushed a coffee color, then dry brushed a sand color. The color looks off in the photos to me; they are actually a nice “playground sand” color. A stand of 15mm Midianites is included to show scale. Stands of troops will stay in place on most of the dune areas; I think the coarse texture provides some grip.

Adding a drybrush of “caramel corn” color along the edges seems to blend it in better with my Dry terrain mat. The mat is wool felt “haybale” color from Prairie Woolens.
