Samo; Rex Slavorum 624-658

... after reading Samo; Rex Slavorum by: György Kristián Szitás I came up with the idea for an exciting historical campaign, regardless of the preferred rules. - dark age about 624 in Europa: after the so-called Germanic mass migration, Slavs & Avars pushed to the west to Central Europe. With the arrival of the Avars in the Carpathian Basin, the expansion of the Slavs was impaired or even accelerated. Serbs & Croats were resettled by the Byzantines as buffer peoples. With the help of Samo, the Merovingian Franks wanted to hire various Slavic tribes as defensive farmers in Bohemia, since the Franks under Sigibert did lose a battle against the Avars in Thuringia. The Lombards also avoided the Avars & settled in Italy & got new neighbours in Carantania also Slavs. In the upper Danube region, the Alemanni & Bavarians repelled the plundering hordes of the Bulgarians or Avars. The Sorbs & other Slavs at the Elbe border also allied against the Franks & their Burgundian & Alemanni allies. The Avar sons, whose mothers were subjugated Slav women, also fight with the Slavs…
...to participate interested players should choose Samos Slavs or their opponents Franks or Avars & have the appropriate troops ready. If there are more gamers ready to play, or those with an army that is ready to play as mentioned above, this campaign can easily be extended so that this period can be played more profoundet...

...by Fredegar a Merovingian chronist we know not only about a Slavic kingdom ruled by Samo of a man of Frankis origin but also about the Bulgarian masacre ordered by Dagobert the Merovingian king in 631. After a large battle in the east between the Avars and Bulgarians the losing Bulgar surviving people of about 9000 Bulgarians with women and children came to ask for asylum by the Franks. But Dagobert ordered his Bavarian vassals to kill all newcomers. 700 surviving men women and children could escape to Carantania, today's Slovenia…
