Hi
Rob, Michael and I started our Hittite campaign today. So I thought I'd post a couple of pictures of the action so far. We all started the campaign 2x 96 point armies (3 commands in each).
Urartiians (Michael)
Turn 1 saw his armies move from Milid to Malataya & Carchemesh. However, rolling double 2s for his 2nd army's initiative triggered a rebellion (event). Carchemesh declared for the Hittites and a strength 2 garrison appeared in the city.
Turn 2. saw his 1st army move to Kanesh while his 2nd army took Carchemesh by storm & installed a new strength 3 Urartian garrison.
Finishing up on 5 Prestige points so far (victory points)
Assyrians (Rob)
Turn 1 was his armies move to Emar & Harran
Turn 2 He installed strength 3 garrisons in both cities. Rolling double 5's (event) for initiative Rob's 1st army received an extra 5 points in reinforcements boosting its strength to 101 points.
Finishing on 6 Prestige points
Hittites (Me)
Turn 1 my armies made for Sincirli & Aleppo.
Turn 2 My 1st army moved to Emar and took on Rob's 1st army. My 2nd army attacked Michael's 1st army at Kanesh.
Finishing on 16 Prestige points
Game 1. I fought Michael's army 1st. Using his Horse bow to delay my chariot arm on the right. He shot the gap between the chariots & my main battle-line with his Jav-Cav. It was a great plan & would have surely rolled up my line. However, a couple of light foot (despite being double over lapped) refused to die & this bought me enough time to win the game on the other flank.
Game 2. Rob totally out deployed me in this game. Basically locking 5 elements of my light foot out of the game. However, a plague of bad pip dice preventing him from taking full advantage of my bad deployment and once again I crawled back a victory from defeat.
Hittite campaign kicks off

Beautiful looking table setup!
Re: Hittite campaign kicks off
cheers Rod
We are enjoying the look of the bigger games, although the boys think my mass of cheesy Hittite chariots will be a hard nut to crack.

Re: Hittite campaign kicks off
I've been studying the fine photos of the beautiful minis and nicely crafted tabletop terrain and pondering how 96 pt armies work. The double-size forces look great. My question: While doubling the required minimum bases of each type is easy, does having more 'left-over' points encourage unhistorical weighting of the better troop types (like Assyrian 4-horse chariots and elite cav) and fewer of the 'junk' troops to reach 96? I think the original poster said three commands per side, so in his games, is each command set at 32 pts, or can one be smaller and another larger than 32 pts which would seem to encourage one 'super-command' to really hammer the enemy. Hope you don't mind the probing questions there, but I'd enjoy some more details about how you worked things.
