Salutations, gentlefolk !

Acquired, cheaply, earlier this year, a pile of Essex 15mm figures - Gauls, Ancient Brits, Picts, other Dark Ages era - and am painting up a few Triumph armies.

Am thinking that The Men Who Wrote The Rules meant this yout as the archtypical Rabble figure

somewhat undersize, shirtless, short trousers, small shield and javelin. The Heritage models were pretty good figures for 1990, I seriously doubt you'll find any more for sale.

These Essex figures look like 'peasants called up to man the walls or guard the camp'; not 'the guys who make things happen' or even 'the guys waiting for things to happen', but 'the guys standing around asking "What happened?"' So I have painted a bunch up, mounted 3 to a deep stand...

Anyway, would like more of the 'shirtless young'uns' to join the ranks (Thot of doing the full Scots-Irish list, keep telling myself 'I ain't that crazy...'). Thinking of converting some of the Essex AncBrit slingers. But if there are any "We were born a rabble" figures out there, that fit with Essex in size and 'presence', please let me know.

Thanks very much, John

PS - Apologies for picture quality, should've waited for daylight, shot them outside.

Corvus Bellis used to have a pack of Celtic "adolescent" skirmishers that was pretty much spot on, but they don't seem to have made the transition to Totentanz: http://totentanz-miniatures.com/product-category/celts/

You can still sometimes find them in Ebay.

There are some 15/18mm Blue Moon Dacian spearmen (shirtless poses) that would pass muster:

And a pack of Baueda Germanic "adolescent" skirmishers that could be pressed into service:

We would hope to have these naked guys ready for sale in the near future.
(Hoping for 3-4 months of quiet on the family front.)
