BattleCard Questions

Post by Deuce » Wed Aug 07, 2019 6:49 pm

When will they appear on meshwesh?

Any hints or examples: like what battle cards and abilities would the Vikings have?

Will they always be options, or will some be mandatory modifications of armies?

Battle cards will always be options, hoping they will be released soon.

Right now the focus is on the final print version final, final proof read.

Didn't see your note.

The Raiders period (790-849 AD) doesn't have much -- Pack Trains and Herds is their only battle card.

The formed army period (850-1280 AD) has more:
  • Pack Trains and Herds
  • Prepared Defenses (0-9 base widths modeled as palisades)
  • Mobile Infantry on all Hird and Raiders
  • Supportable on the Huscarles
  • Supporting Bowmen on the Hird bowmen
Pack Trains and Herds allows the army to position a camp in a non-central location.

Prepared Defenses allows placement of obstacles (functioning as difficult terrain) as part of deployment

Mobile Infantry allows troops to use mounts for greater mobility without fighting from them.

Supportable/Supporting Bowmen are linked; the army owner can choose not to deploy his Hird bowmen and instead to have the "supportable" troops gain a combat improvement against mounted due to the attached troops (who can not be reconstituted as separate forces in that battle).

Wow! Battle cards are going to be much more than I expected. Sounds cool. Can't wait to see the product of all your work!

Thanks.

One warning, though -- Battle Cards are based on history (as best we understand it) -- so some armies have more of them; some have fewer. There are point costs for battle cards, so they're always "fair" in the sense that two armies of 48 pts have the same chance of winning (more or less), but not all armies have the same availability of battle cards. Just like not all armies have the same availability of Knights, or Warwagon, or whatever.
