If a unit is contacted in the flank does its zoc disappear to its front or is it still there ?

Yes, if an enemy front edge covers the entire side edge that is flank contact and would put the stands in combat. Combat breaks ZOC.

Ok thanks , Makes turning the flanks on stands that are in echelon more interesting .

Right. The basic thing is that you cannot protect the flank of another stand ahead of you, if you are fighting for your life (lives) against an attack against your flank or rear.
