The Classical Indian list requires an elephant general, in addition to 2-3 elephants.
If I buy the elephant screen card, what becomes of the general?

That's probably going to require an army list change to fix. Either adding an alternative general type, or removing elephant screen from that army. Won't know until I look at it, do some research, and see about other armies that might be similarly affected (Hindu Indian, at a guess)

Per Wikipedia Hydaspes article:
“The Indians were poised with cavalry on both flanks, fronted by their chariots, while their center comprising infantry with war elephants stationed every fifty feet in front of them, to deter the Macedonian cavalry.”
Sounds like elephant screen.
Then: “Porus, eschewing the usual tradition of Indian kings fighting from a chariot, was mounted atop his tallest war elephant.”
Sounds like a chariot mounted command was the norm.
But how to represent this battle? Screen, but general in an elephant. Maybe General in the screened Heavy Infantry, as proposed by OP?
I realize this is Wikipedia
When I get home I will consult Ian Heath’s Armies and Enemies book.
