Re: Triumph on a Square Grid

To The Strongest is a great game. Although of the great things about Triumph (and DBx in general) is that degradation of the battle line is taken care with the elements backing up, evading etc. no chits required. Chits always irritated me which is one of the reasons why I love Triumph so much. I wou...

Re: Triumph on a Square Grid

Interesting. Quite a number of grid games appearing in the last few years. I would have each square be 1MU so an element straddles 2 squares. That way when they encounter an enemy they can slide left or right if they are not perfectly aligned. The only major disadvantage I see is group wheeling and ...

Re: Using Rabble vs Skirmishers in front

Oh right! Because some of the lights can negate rear support. Thanks again. Could be used against heavy foot later hoplites and warband..

Re: Using Rabble vs Skirmishers in front

Thanks for the clarification Rod! I was mistaking the "Skirmishers and Rabble can group move through rough terrain" with the pass through rule. I tend to think of Hoplite battles.. I think I was also getting confused thinking that early hoplite armies ONLY had rabble instead of skirmishers. Another ...

Using Rabble vs Skirmishers in front

So I'm painting armies, and Rabble is a bit of a new type for me, being as deep as a mounted unit, but with poor skirmishers on it. I see that Rabble Panic rather than Skirmisher who evade. I see that Panic: 1. Fall back 2. Turn 180 degrees 3. THEN make a panic move Panic moves die if they hit a fri...

Re: Thracians and Rhompaia

I suppose it depends if they fought together as a unit, or if Rhomphia-wielders were distributed as a small admixture in a larger group of more normal open-order peltasts with shield and pelte. It's a long time since I looked at them; I don't recall what went through our discussions back then. Rhom...

Thracians and Rhompaia

So I've seen in other sets that Thracians carrying the dreaded rhompaia are rated as beefier than the standard Peltasts that Thrace is known for. I didn't see them mentioned in the High or Low Hill Thracian lists. Are they expected to be Light Spear, if they aren't Light Foot? Would 0-1 element be w...

Re: Cataphracts

Even if the base rules don't change, would you ever consider modifying the points for each troop type? I know it's not much, but I have noticed some rulesets need to tweak the cost of troops, after finding that there's too many/too few. Also, I don't think there's a problem with the points as they s...

Re: Cataphracts

I’ve started to appreciate the games that are on grids such as To The Strongest just because they avoid the rebasing problem entirely. Have even been flirting with playing triumph in a grid. There are some things that would change (you can’t slow down troops with an angled ZOC) but I think it would ...

No, worries, I was playing a Table Top Simulator game yesterday with a new player and he lost his general in the first combat on a 6-1 split

Believe me that is penalty enough, no extra salt for that wound required.
Gutsy move in any game, committing your general to the first clash!
