Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

The Siracae, Iazyges, and Later Rhoxolani list has 6-12 Knights, but the other troops available amount to a mere 14 points, so the Knights minimum should probably raised to eight.

Re: Early Samurai foot

Ah, I see. So you're talking about "crossbow and pavise" in the sense where the crossbowmen have individual (personal) mantlets or similar to protect themselves when reloading, not where "crossbow and pavise" means some guys with the first and some guys protecting them with the second. Yep. In the ...

Re: Early Samurai foot

Acc'd the Meshwesh definition, Pavisiers are a "combination formation where a large body of long-distance missile troops are stiffened with a few front ranks of spear or pike, often with the large shield called (in the Middle Ages) a pavise, or similar." So I assumed that while the pavise is typical...

Re: Early Samurai foot

Checking Karl Friday's Samurai, Warfare and the State in Early Medieval Japan (which concentrates on samurai rather than lesser warriors), bowmen shooting from behind pavises are likened to European crossbow-and-pavise infantry. This might argue for classification as Archers*, but on internal balanc...

Early Samurai foot

The Early Samurai list has the bulk of the foot as Pavisiers. My understanding (mainly based on comments by Duncan Head and a line in the corresponding DBMM list) is that these are just bowmen with pavises, lacking any "crust" of spearmen or the like, so maybe they ought be Archers or even Bow Levy ...

Re: Meshwesh Keywords and Search Terms

"Japanese" should find the various "Samurai" lists from AD 900 on. (Act'ly, I'd think it preferable to rename them as "Kamakura Japanese" etc. and have "samurai" as a keyword. You'd have to do something marginally clever with "Early Samurai", of course, since there's already an "Early Japanese" list...

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

Ah. The "local" scroll bar on the results list is practically invisible (but functional) when I access the site from the Nexus, so I didn't realize there was one yesterday. When I use the laptop the scroll bar is normal.

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

For some reason, a search for "Byzantine" fails to find the Palaiologan Byzantine list.

(A helpful hint you shouldn't play these losers?)

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

I'm sure there are upsides and downsides we haven't thought of -- I'd value feedback on this issue. It's small (doesn't happen frequently), but complex. The solution that comes immediately to mind is something like "General's troop type: Knights if present, otherwise Pikes", or "General's troop typ...
