Re: Bohemimiens

Andreas Johansson@: The Wikipadia distinguish between; western, eastern & south Slavs. Why not use this expresion? Because they don't map to the distinctions made in the Triumph! lists. The "Bohemian" list, acc'd David above, includes the Bohemians and Moravians (West Slavs) and the Carinthians (ak...

Re: Bohemimiens

Bohemian Slav here might not be a perfect name for this group, as it includes Moravians and Corinthians. Carinthians, I assume :) I don't think "Central Slav" is very felicitous; these are mainly peoples on the western margin of the Slavic world. Unfortunately, "Western Slav" may not be very good e...

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

What is dubious regarding hird is the distinction between "Huscarles" and "Hird" in the Viking lists: huskarl and hirdman are basically synonymous.

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

Hird is grammatically singular, but it means something like "retinue" - the armed companions of a leader as a collective - so using it to refer to a group of men is appropriate. Basically the same goes for Slavic druzhina ( drużyna , etc.) and Medieval Latin familia . A single member is a hirdman , ...

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

Perhaps not an error, exactly, but the Scandinavian Leidang list calls the rank and file Bondi . This is, I realize wargamer tradition, but in Old Norse it's a singular word (meaning "farmer, yeoman; husband") - the plural form is bœndr (or boendr with the ligature expanded). Using the singular form...

Re: 15mm Khurasan Jurchen Jin

In origin, they were a forest people - it may be more helpful to think of them as "Siberian" rather than "steppe" - making a mixed living from hunting, fishing, animal husbandry, and low-intensity agriculture. They presumably found adopting a Sinicized lifestyle a lesser step than did the Khitans or...

Re: New Shooting Rules

One tidbit that came up: apparently at Formigny, English longbowmen preferred to charge, capture, and try to drag away French guns over simply shooting the gunners. While this doesn't directly tell us how effective the latter tactic should be, it does suggest that moving into close combat with Artil...

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

Your explanation is clear enough, but, as you say, hard to infer from Meshwesh itself. Not sure how to better communicate it there, short of a note saying something to the effect of "These are Type III allies, which means you don't get a full Polish army in Grand Triumph!".

Re: Panic move and difficult terrain

What if meets the wooded hill after 4 MU? If reduced to just 3 MU it wouldn't reach the slowing terrain so should move 8 MU so it does reach the slowing terrain ...

The sensible solution is that it stops at the edge of the terrain, but do the rules actually come out and state this somewhere?

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

The Polish allies for Hussites say "Full Army List: not available". Presumably this should be "Later Polish"?
