Re: Ghurid infantry

One interpretation I've seen is that it's something like this: https://qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-fa215104abbaabe0b77f68cb40b0d469 Nice! People have fought in stupider, but not often. I sure wouldn't want to march far in that (with regular armor underneath), and I wouldn't want to fight in it ag...

Re: Ghurid infantry

Interesting. However, a covering "like a board" seems more like a mantlet or perhaps a pavise than armor, so "put it on" doesn't fit. Whether or not there are wheels isn't the issue. "Put it on" (in the "wear it" sense) also doesn't fit with a thick raw hide like a board covered both sides thickly w...

Re: Proposed 15mm Sumerian Range (by Eureka)

(I note that the troop type definitions list "some Chinese armies" as a 3rd example of long lance users classed as Chariots - or rather a 2nd as Sumerians aren't there mentioned. I have no idea if that's accurate or not but I can't help but notice they're not among your two cases here.) IIRC, some ...

Re: Ghurid infantry

In the Battle Card system coming soon (nearly complete and ready for release) we have a battle card called "Plaustrella" which is used for a variety of troop types that had a mobile, multi-man-portable, cart-like fortification-thing. The word Plaustrella comes from the examples in three or four batt...

Re: Proposed 15mm Sumerian Range (by Eureka)

Is, BTW, Chariots the appropriate classification for Sumerian battle-carts? The troop definitions suggest that javelin-chucking chariots should be Battle Taxis. (I'm incidentally somewhat puzzled that javelins should make you BT but a lance make you Ch: Surely the latter is even more short-ranged.)...

Re: Proposed 15mm Sumerian Range (by Eureka)

For a Gilgamesh Era Sumerian army you need: 1-2 Chariots (4 wheeled battle cars) 0-2 Raiders (household axemen -- only for the army of Kish) 1 Bow Levy (household bowmen) 8-13 Pike 1-2 Rabble (Nomad javelinmen) 1-6 Skirmishers (Nomad slingers and skirmishing bowmen That's 6 packs of Pikemen (assumin...

Re: Khurasan 15mm West Sudanese Range

Remember seeing a display at the Smithsonian few years ago of arms and armor from the Mali, Benin, Kanem/Bornu, Songhai and other west African kingdoms associated with the ascendancy of Timbuktu. There were very elaborate and highly decorated weapons, helmets and body armor and horse tack in partic...

Right, that starts at 1502, outside the Triumph timeframe. (Date based on Wikipedia -- no idea what the DBR list looks like, as I don't have that)

Re: Khurasan 15mm West Sudanese Range

Those figs all look great! I got excited when I saw the Cataphracts. Sadly I have not been able to find them in meshwesh....looking under the Sahel Africa theme lists. That's because calling "West Sudanese" an army list, is like calling "Western Europe" an army list. It's an artifact of Phil's nome...
