Re: Scots Common Army Pikemen – Did they have shields?

Interesting video on using small shields with two handed weapons by Matt Easton of Scholagladiatoria. https://youtu.be/zr_aFXmVmwA Shad of Shadversity also has one with Norman style shield and great sword, with shield slung over back. Very awkward but doable and shield is in great position if you ov...

Re: Historicon

Bad news re: Historicon 2021...from the announcement just posted: "The current restrictions in Pennsylvania and at the facility once again make it impossible for us to hold Historicon in July 2021. We had extensive - and sometimes exhausting - conversations with the venue to make this work. The main...

Re: Historicon

The latest public word (Feb. 24) from Historicon convention director Joby Miller: "So, at this time, we have not cancelled Historicon. We still have sufficient time to put on a great show even if planning doesn't start in earnest for a few more weeks. Submissions for events and signup for exhibitors...

Re: Scots Common Army Pikemen – Did they have shields?

I’d assume that if any had shields, they’d be mostly small buckler-sized targes that could be hung on the belt or round targets hung over the back, and taken in hand if forced to resort to edged weapons. Robert the Bruce’s ordinance doesn’t mention shields as a requirement, even for those with money...

New 15mm Repubilican Romans and Landsknechts from Khurasan

Khurasan Miniatures is teasing a new range of 15mm Republican Romans for the Punic and Macedonian Wars (roughly 250-150 BC) for those who want to get their Scipio Africanus on. As described at their blogsite: "The Macedonian and Punic Wars will get the same intense coverage in an upcoming range that...

Re: Research Help : Deceptive Deployment

Here's a fun one from Frontinus' Strategems: On one occasion when Pericles, general of the Athenians, was about to engage in battle, noticing a grove from which both armies were visible, very dense and dark, but unoccupied and consecrated to Father Pluto, he took a man of enormous stature, made impo...
