Re: Triumph on a Square Grid

I've played a few different games based on square or hex grids and had a lot of fun. Having said that, I don't think Triumph! will work well that way. A lot of depth is added to the game by the variations in unit movement rates. These variations are baked into a lot of the game's mechanics and contr...

Re: 10mm Lord of the Rings / Warhammer

Take some Archers and base them dispersed and fewer-of, and you've got Skirmishers. Hah! Painfully obvious! It shows my current bias against adding bases to existing armies. I'm in the middle of converting a couple armies from "a game I used to play" and need to add some stands. I HATE trying to ma...

Re: 10mm Lord of the Rings / Warhammer

I am starting to think Bad Horse that can dismount to Skirmishers? That was actually my first thought 👍🏻, but I don't remember the Warmaster 10mm line having skirmishers, so I was trying to avoid that option. I suggested downgraded elite cavalry to give them some extra resilience (in lieu of dismou...

Re: 10mm Lord of the Rings / Warhammer

Thanks! .... Not sure with the light cavalry as they also have bows strung to their back... ...might also be rated as Horse Bow, but not decided yet. Guess JavCav is fitting better.... Canonically they are huntsmen. They are supposed to serve a scouting/ harassing function for the Bretonnian army. ...

Re: Too Little Terrain

I do not really get the point of the discussion.... The OP played in an open tournament where his army was at a huge disadvantage without terrain (loaner army so not really his fault...). He wondered if game play would be improved if there was a way to have more terrain in those circumstances. I've...

Re: Historicon

I faced 3 late medieval armies and did not have any battle cards. I also had some bad die-rolling. Without the battle cards, those are rough match-ups. Prepared Defenses and Mobile Infantry really help out against that type of army. Of course, if the dice were rooting for your opponents, it probabl...

Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos continued (from Oct 5, 2021)

Yes, I meant the optional contingent. I should have realized that using "allied", as in "Allied Thessalian Cavalry", would lead to confusion. I meant to ask if Athens is allowed to take their own Thessalian horsemen as well as the optional contingent of Thessalian horsemen (allowing them up to 4 ele...
