Re: Early Imperial Roman Auxilia as Raiders

Just looking at the tables and without any test match, I would use Light Foot against Warband/Warrior.

They are not shattered if beaten, cost less, have more speed, the same combat factors and do not suffer the -1 in difficult terrain.

These are my Auxilia Palatina !

My two cents

Re: Early Imperial Roman Auxilia as Raiders

No, they are shattered if beaten by warband and warriors just like Elite Foot, Heavy Foot, Horde, Pavisiers, Pike and Spear (62.2).

Re: Plaustrella: man-pushed scythed carts in the Communal Italian army list

About mastro Buvalello (this is the right spelling, I mistakenly wrote "Bulavello") : he was hired by Imola municipality in 1222 (see Aldo Settia, Il riflesso ossidionale) to design and built throwing machines.

Re: Plaustrella: man-pushed scythed carts in the Communal Italian army list

I wrote "Artillery" because A. Settia used the corresponding Italian word. Nothing to do with gunpowder, sorry. The description by the original author, Guido da Vigevano, was about machines ("manganelle" : trebuchet ?) able to throw stones and other projectiles, and able to move surrounded and prote...

Re: Plaustrella: man-pushed scythed carts in the Communal Italian army list

Thanks, Fab. I'll read that article. (Or get Google Translate to help me read it, and ask you if I have questions about any particular passage?). I'm ready to help (hopefully better translator than Google). If it is also used by Bologna in 1229, then letting any Later Communal army in the whole 115...

Re: Plaustrella: man-pushed scythed carts in the Communal Italian army list

I'm not a historian, just a gamer. So said, I found a few information written in Italian about "Plaustrella". An Italian author, Aldo Settia (see http://www.academia.edu/21550545/2015_Aldo_Settia_Guido_da_Vigevano._Military_Machines_in_The_Texaurus_regis_Francie) has analyzed a note written by Guido...

Re: Army composition for inexperienced players

That sounds good, Fab. And achievable, with some work. I do think that your 40-60 armies (20-30 couples) would end up being bigger, maybe 100 armies total at the end, after all the "most common" or most memorable armies are counted in. But still quite achievable. How much variation, though? No vari...

Re: Army composition for inexperienced players

No, I don't think that each one of the 650ish armies should have a typical list. I think that a newbie will start with some of the most common armies : I imagine Roman (Republican and Imperial), Gallic, Macedonian, Hoplite Greek, Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Indian, Persian, Crusader, Medieval English and F...

Army composition for inexperienced players

The accuracy and completeness of the Meshwesh army lists can make the army composition a difficult task for a newbie (for example a teenager).

I think that adding a "typical" composition for the most common armies can be a valuable help for an inexperienced player.

Any thoughts ?
