Re: Early Sumerians vs. Nomadic Amurru

Thanks MarkusB! I try to share the research and sources I have found so that other people interested in the same army have someplace to start. I have a few pieces of scatter terrain in these photos from the next battle (below), including a Sumerian farmer plowing a field and a ram caught in a thicke...

Re: Take the Chevy to the levy but the LEVY RUN DRY!

I have a battle report posted on the forum "Early Sumerians vs. Nomadic Amurru" which features a lot of bow levy on both sides. There is also a lot of good commentary on how to use them in battle in combination with other light troops.

Re: 15mm Bronze Age Zagros Highlanders Camp

The original camp, in the previous posts, was a combination of what little is known about Lullubi and early Gutian culture. My concept for the Lullubi army changed when I learned of recent (published 2019) archaeology of a Lullubi city that showed them to be more urbanized and literate than depicted...

Re: Early Sumerians vs. Nomadic Amurru

Very good points; I have to agree that avoiding combat with the Bow Levy while rushing forward on a flank with the Skirmishers and Raider General is a good plan. I made step towards that on the second battle and did slightly better. Having the General move with the Skirmishers is a great idea also, ...

Re: Bronze Age Zagros Highlanders

The 2019 publication of findings about an ancient city in Iraqi Kurdistan, believed to be the capital of the Lullubi people, has changed my perception of this army. They appear to have been literate in several languages, involved in regional trade, built with fitted stone, and had extensive agricultu...

Early Sumerians vs. Nomadic Amurru

My son and I played two battles last week. He took the Nomadic Amurru and I took the Early Sumerians. The Nomadic Amurru have five Light Foot, three Archers, and the rest are Rabble, Skirmishers, and Bow Levy. The Early Sumerians have a Raider, supported by six Skirmishers, some Rabble, and mobs of ...

I like the paint jobs; the archers in particular look nice. Also the horses look great!

Re: 15mm Light Spear

If you are looking for dark ages or medieval type figures, I would take a look at the "Feudal Castings" line. They have some Scots infantry with spears and no shields. They could work for many periods - shaggy hair, beards, tunic, trousers. Plus they are nice castings. They were sold for a while as ...

15mm Akkadians

Sargon the Great, starting from humble beginnings and with a single city-state (most likely located in what is now Baghdad) at his command, built an empire that spanned Mesopotamia and is referred to as the first empire in the ancient Near East. His instrument of conquest was the Akkadian army. It i...
