Re: Defending against Horse Bow

Hah! "I weep inside, every few years when someone says "hey, what about average dice?" Sorry to have caused you such pain David K. In my defense I am no stranger to pip management, though admittedly rusty, but when you aint got none, you ain't got none, and manage as you like it is a frustrating exp...

Re: Defending against Horse Bow

Thanks Bill, That is a very helpful response. I watched a good portion of Rod's battle of Hattin video and it was interesting to note that for the scenario he created there was significant terrain (or smoke) to make the game interesting, and the mobile Saladin command went second over the immobile C...

Re: Defending against Horse Bow

We really should have Greedo, but Paul was trying out a couple of new armies and I was trying to figure out effective strategies to combat them, so it worked out just fine. I knew ahead of time I would be facing Paul at the head of a light horse army which is always a daunting prospect. Definitely s...

Re: Defending against Horse Bow

I have had the Sarmatians on the painting desk for ages, just never have gotten to them. Well that is not exactly true, I painted one army to sell long ago.

As for war wagons, I just don't have any armies that use them.

Re: Defending against Horse Bow

I forgot the best option - if you can't beat them join them. High time I painted some Sarmatians!

Re: Defending against Horse Bow

Hey Paul, You forgot the age old adage - don't roll "1"s for movement on a consistent basis! Your points are excellent and just the kind of thing I was looking for. I did try and deploy in smaller groups on a couple of games but was never able to deploy them in an advantageous way, though I think th...

Re: Defending against Horse Bow

Thanks David K, I had anywhere from 3-6 archers depending on the army. I tried intermingling archers with raiders (samurai) and heavy foot (Feudal or Medieval English) on every occasion, but with Javelin Cavalry and horse Bow combined it was a simple matter for Paul to hit melee troops with Javelin ...

Re: Defending against Horse Bow

Thanks David and Rod. I'll have to try a Bow Levy match up and see how that goes and take a look at your Hattin videos. A couple of points: Paul had the Khazar? army for most of the games, which is a deadly combo of knights, javelin cavalry and horse bow for which I could find little to no response....

Defending against Horse Bow

Recently Paul Potter and I had a game day and were able to get in six games in person. Both of our families being vaccinated we decided to go all out in what we felt was a safe environment, unfortunately the battlefield definitely did not turn out to be a safe environment for me! Paul played two hor...
