Re: Research Help : Deceptive Deployment
Interesting! I don't know if these are relevant, but: In his book "ancient battle formations", Justin Swanton hypothesizes that at Sellasia, Antigonus' 1600 Illyrians might have deployed 'in parembole' with 5000 phalangites on his left flank - that is, with intercalated/interjected files. The whole ...

Re: Front side overlapping
So, will X overlap B and provide -1 factor to the main combat? B is in front contact with A, so you must roll A vs B. Y is in flank contact with B's right flank, so it contributes a -1 to the roll. Nothing else can 'further penalize' B's right flank above and beyond this -1 factor. As always, just ...

Re: Front side overlapping
Yes, I can only count one penalty on one side. But in my case I overlap two sides - flank by C and front by B. Ok, now I think I see where the confusion arises. This is how I've always played: You don't overlap an edge that has front contact on it - you overlap the edge next to it. If you're in mut...

Section 68.1:
"At most a single -1 tactical factor is applied per edge even if multiple threats apply to that edge."

Re: Newibe gaming afternoon
Hi Roundie, all your armies look incredible. What I like most is the way close order infantry looks different from everything else... much more so than just having 4 guys in a row instead of 2 or 3. Double bases are definitely the way to go! Unfortunately (for me), it's way out of my league in terms...

Re: ...and now for something completely different
Awesome! Any particular brand? I’ve never run across wooden dice before. Well it's the first time I've ever seen them, but googling for "wooden cubes rounded corners" gives hundreds of results (most of which cheap as dirt). I don't think that making themed wargame dice is a massively popular activi...

...and now for something completely different
A few days ago I went to buy some stuff at a DIY store nearby, and I noticed a pack of blank wooden cubes with rounded corners. First, I idly considered that they would make great d6s if only they had some kind of marking on them. Then, I considered how easy it would be to mark them with a woodburni...

Re: Ekdromoi
I'd suggest something simpler: a one-shot card like you have it, usable by a hoplite (heavy foot or elite foot) that causes an automatic fall-back for a single Skirmisher or Rabble stand that is within 1mu of the hoplite and is in its ZOC. Usable on the friendly or enemy turn, only in the close com...

Ekdromoi
Hi guys! Yesterday I was idly thinking about how to depict the common hoplite tactic of having a few lightly-armed guys interspersed with 'standard' heavies, then send them out when enemy psiloi were too close. Allegedly, the order to "run-out" (ekdromoi just means 'out-runners') was sometimes actua...
