Re: column formation

I have a question about 38.6 c . If I have a 2 stand column more than 2 MU away from the enemy I could not charge with a column formation . Is that correct ? I could charge by making a single stand moves ? Not sure. What does "charge" mean to you? There is no such term in the rules. Can you engage ...

Re: Chinese Warring States Qin Infantry

Last night I watched a You Tube video, done by a Chinese outfit, that addressed new research regarding why the Qin army based on a third excavation completed in 2022 of the Terra Cotta Soldiers in which more care was taken to detect previously overlooked clues. First, he said the Qin crossbows had ...

Re: Shooter range

Edit: Used an online scale converter. I play in 10mm w a 40mm frontage. Unless I miscalculated, an effective archery range should be 30 MU, or that the miniature scale should be 1mm. I guess that factor 10 misalignment is a big part of the 'feels wrong' for me. A single stand of troops in most peri...

Re: Shooter range

Good answer, David, thanks! Perhaps it's not distances but turn sequences that messes things up in my head. I mean even if it were 20 seconds, and cavalry covered 100 yards, you'd still expect them to do that under a few volleys of effective arrows, no? To "fix" shooting units so that they A; don't...

Re: Shooter range

My curiosity about shooting range isn't so much that I don't understand simple concepts. It's more that I value the aesthetic over the simulation, that it feels right, rather than "imagine that your miniatures are in a completely different scale than what they are". Fair enough. I'm just pointing o...

Re: Shooter range

Grew up on 28mm, so that might contribute to how it feels. But also, any projectile would be faster than any movement regardless of effective range, so when faster units reach shooters without being shot at it seems wrong. The shooters' higher CF will never feel like they're firing ranged weapons I...

Re: Shooter range

What would be the downside to having a shooter range of say 8", and a lower CF? I assume there is a reason given the history, but I can't figure it out myself. As Rod says, nobody did massed group fire (which is what shooters do) beyond their effective range. I suspect you're thinking in a skirmish...

Re: Early Mycenaen Pikes

I am wondering why the core infantry in the Early Mycenaean list are rated as 'pikes,' while the Later Mycenaean infantry are rated as 'heavy foot' while both are described in the two lists as 'spearmen.' The second part of my question: The Early Mycenaean pikes are listed as supportable by archers...

BTw Meant to ask... I take it the Camels will still get -1 for being in difficult?
No. Camels treat Dunes as open terrain.
