How Should Romans Be Classified?
Usually Roman legionaires are classified as Elite Foot. I wonder if they would better classified as Raiders. My logic is 1. Romans had no trouble operating in difficult terrain. They had a distinct advantage over the Hellenistic Phalanx under in rough terrain. They were experienced at operating in s...

Close Order and Open Order Infantry
I was watching a Kings & Generals video on Germanicus's campaign against Arminius. In one engagement, the Romans had created a corduroy road through a marsh. As the Romans, were marching through, the Germans attacked the head of the column, flanking them in the marsh. The rear of the Roman column, i...

Re: Caesar vs Ariovistus: Some Thoughts . . .
Given the scale of Triumph, it is hard to show the formations of the Roman legions. In most cases, I would classify Roman legions as being Elite Foot. In a typical historical battle, the Romans would actually have a higher point total than their foes. A typical Gallic or German tribe would not field...

Re: One Bridge, Two Fords, Three Battles . . .
There is no official Triumph rules for bridges or fords. The question was how to handle them in historical battles. I would suggest fords being difficult terrain. Taking a bridge was very hard without artillery to sweep the defenders away and should give additional advantages.
