Very nice. Excuse my ignorance but what is that curved indentation for?

It makes it easier to fling them across the room, like a chakram or a shuriken. Or the dread weapon of the 15th Century Ninja Corps of La Belle France, the Fleuriken (a shuriken in the shape of a fleur-de-lis).

I believe it is just a nicer looking way to cut out the necessary gap between the two adjacent sides.

You didn't like my shuriken answer?

Ok. Thanks for all those answers.
I guess makes a suitable hand hold too.

The big thing is this: you want the gauge to be able to measure 4 things. 4 different measurements. You can't make a rectangle with 4 different measurements. How do you do it so you can use 4 sides, and each side is different? That way.

But the shuriken answer is cooler.

Although you could balance it on your nose that way, too. If your nose is large enough. Mine is pretty large; I should have no problem. YMMV

Guys the notch facilitates dropping the gage between two lines of troops without whacking your figures.

I did like the “fleuriken” answer, and take it as a challenge to work into a French Medieval camp in some future build!
