Re: Meshwesh minor errors and typos

Both Khitan-Liao lists have the general's troop type listed as Knights, but the lists don't contain any. It should say Elite Cav instead.

Re: Cañari

You won't find the list if you go to the trouble of entering the tilde when searching. Sounds like a job for a keyword.

Re: Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms

Now reading about the Shatuo Chinese Dynasties, I'm wondering if the Northern Han ought to be considered as a Shatuo Chinese Dynasty rather than a Northern Five Dynasties -- the difference is primarily whether it (N.Han) is a Shatuo Chinese Dynasty army (Elite Cav, Horsebow, with lots of Northern C...

Re: German tribes

Frisians were the Frisii. That may not be the case: Frisia appears to have been largely abandoned during late Antiquity, and the people who eventually resettled it needn't have been descendants of the original inhabitants. The "Hallstat and La Tene" list should be "Hallstatt and ..." with a double 't'.

Re: Sea Peoples Start Date

Doing some further readings on the Sherden, I found this paper which may be of some interest: Jeffrey P. Emanuel, Sherden from the Sea Regarding the Peleset, the situation is I think not quite so dire as you make out: the strong Aegean/Helladic/Mycenaean influence in Philistine material culture sure...

Re: Sea Peoples Start Date

Acc'd a notice on the WP Sea People page, the Lukka are first heard of in the Middle Bronze Age. Obviously, they might have changed their fighting style a lot between then and the Ramesside period (the Egyptians certainly did!). Looking further at that page, it mentions a Tanis Stele II of Ramses II...

Re: Sea Peoples Start Date

I lean towards the view that "the Sea Peoples" were in reality a collection of more or less independent barbarian groups, but if there was a single confederation, army, or horde, it would seem to be necessary to assume they first tried to invade Egypt under Merenptah - apparently from Libya - and th...
