Re: Yet another question.. Optional Contingents in Meshwesh
I think I’m trying to figure out what “required” and “optional” means. Polybian Roman for example has its heavy foot as required but they are 0-8 min/max numbers. If you can have 0 of them, why are they required? Wouldn’t that make them default optional? Hey Chris. The required troops are the basic...

Re: Syracusan vs Early Carthaginians (15mmm big bases)
Ah, I was lumping warband, raiders, warriors etc into a “medium category”. The harder part I’m thinking is how to tell the difference between something like warband, and warriors, or raiders and heavy foot where the troops look similar but they are either close order or open order.. Warband: open o...

Re: Syracusan vs Early Carthaginians (15mmm big bases)
Inspired by these bases! Do you have a rough rule of thumb of figs for each kind of base? I was thinking this: Heavy infantry: 14 Medium infantry: 12 Light infantry: 10 Skirmishers: 8 Light horse: 6 Hav cav / elite horse: 8 Catephracts: 10 Minor quibble -- what is medium infantry in Triumph? Heavy ...

Re: Troop Type Summary Sheet
It wouldn't cause any Intellectual Property concerns, no. It would certainly be unofficial, of course. But whatever you want to do is fine. There are lots of people who have made up a variety of player's aids -- we are not responsible for their content (or errors, if any), but if you think something...

Re: Research Help : Deceptive Deployment
Here's a fun one from Frontinus' Strategems: On one occasion when Pericles, general of the Athenians, was about to engage in battle, noticing a grove from which both armies were visible, very dense and dark, but unoccupied and consecrated to Father Pluto, he took a man of enormous stature, made imp...

Re: Research Help : Deceptive Deployment
I'm having trouble finding my reference, but recall an account of a Dark Ages battle in Scotland where at the height of the battle, grooms and camp followers were mounted on pack horses from the baggage train and brought forward to a hill overlooking the combatants, causing a panic among the opposi...

Re: What does Sword Armed Knights Represent?
Kurds, mostly. Whether fighting on their own or as mercenaries in a dozen other armies, or the Dynastic Kurdish army. But also a few other cases of melee-oriented mounted troops that were not as effective as lance/spear charging knights, but also don't fit the mold of JavCav, Cataphracts, and certai...

Research Help : Deceptive Deployment
As a part of finalizing the text for the Battle Cards, we have decided that we needed to add another one: Deceptive Deployment. The deal is this: there are a number of armies where some bright fellow used a fancy trick of some sort to deceive foes about something having to do with deployment. We've ...

Re: Strange but legal?
Perfectly legal, and not really that strange. If the heavy foot was light foot (with a greater movement rate) it could easily have hit the JavCav in the flank, putting it in a no-retreat situation.

Re: Close order foot on 20mm deep stands...
In this regard, I have a question. Is it possible to adapt the game somehow without mass re-basing of our ready-made close order infantry? If your army is based differently from Triumph, then no, there is no "natural" way to avoid rebasing and still use the game as written. It's easy enough to do w...
