Re: Camels

I'm not sure quite where you consider the date cut-off to be for Triumph, but quite a few lists continue into the 16th century, which IIUC is the invention time frame for camel-guns. The Intertoobz are not very helpful ATM, but WP (uncitedly) credits Humayun (reigned 1530-40 and 1555-56) with them ...

Re: Camels

Was switching to horses ever a realistic option for Tuaregs? Keeping them in the central Sahara can't be easy, and while Tuareg forces often intervened both in the Sudan and the Maghreb, I don't recall there ever being any based there on a more-or-less permanent basis. Switching riding animal in th...

Re: Camels

I doubt we'll have to move this thread; I agree with you, completely, and on this topic shall likely write no more. It is more a matter of maximizing forum re-usability as an information resource -- people looking in the "Crafting" headings for ideas for command stands wouldn't find our i...

Re: Camels

Salutations, Dr. Kuijt, and gentlepeople ! OK: 1 - The Palmyran list in Meshwesh has 'horse bow' and 'cataphracts' as allowed 'general's troop types' 2 - The only miniature figure of Queen Zenobia that I know of is that of her riding a camel, by Irregular (Oneovdezedaze Mr. Kovel of Silver Eagle wi...

Re: Camels

Salutations, gentlefolk ! OK. am currently uppainting the Palmyrans (one element Bad Horse "Camel mounted caravan guards", and possibly one of Horse Bow should any more of the 'Queen Zenobia riding camel' ever arrive on these shores) and Arab Conquest (one Bad Horse 'Light camels') I have...

28mm Plastics

Okay, I have hundreds of 15mm armies -- almost all my historicals are 15mm, and all metal. But my fantasy armies are almost all 28mm, and I've been working on recreating the battle of Pelennor Field, and I'm here to mention a huge advantage of the 28mm plastics that now form a lot of armies out ther...

Certainly. I'm a little confused -- why would you suggest they change? Or be concerned that they might?

Re: 25/28mm at Fall In

Hey Joe, Although I don't have any 25/28mm historical armies, I will be running a big Pelennor Fields event with 28mm figures (80mm base width), so I'll have 10 Tolkein armies there. I hesitate to say "let's play", though, because my time is usually massively committed with running events,...

Re: Stratclyde spear

Just out of curiosity, why are the bulk of a Strathclyde army classed as Spears? Their neighbours and enemies (Scots, Picts, Bernicians, Norsemen) are mostly footsloggers, so it seems slightly unexpected they'd be especially good at resisting cavalry, and in a history-based campaign or theme they'd...

Re: Making the map for Pelennor Field

Here's another option from Home Depot....5x8 (almost 6x9) painters drop cloths made up of 8 oz canvas by Sigman for $12 bucks each. Two packs have got your table covered. You could run the Osgiliath causeway to hide the seam. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sigman-5-ft-9-in-x-8-ft-9-in-8-oz-Canvas-Drop-...
